CERTIFICATES AND DIPLOMAS IN ENGINEERING

(N1 and N2 certificates are issued by DHET (Department of Higher Education and Training) ; N3 certificates are issued by UMALUSI (Council for Qualify Assurance in General and Further Education and Training) and N4, N5 and N6 certificates and diplomas by QCTO (Qualify Council for Trade and Occupations)

N2 is a basic requirement for TRADE TEST
Only four subjects per certificate
N3 is a requirement for WIREMAN’S LICENCE

UNIVERSITY ACCESS PROGRAMMES
Students who haved completed matric and want to attend university but do not qualify may complete N3 or N4 which qualifies you for university entrance.
MINIMUM of 60% need to be achieved

  • Requirements to qualify as an ELECTRICIAN
    • Trade test, N3 National Certificate and Installation Rules Paper 1 and 2 (Minimum 50% to be obtained in each paper)
  • Requirements to qualify as a MASTER ELECTRICIAN
    • Diploma in Electrical Engineering and Specialised Codes Paper 1 and 2 (Minimum 50% to be obtained in each other)
  • Requirements for a DIPLOMA in ENGINEERING
    • N3 National Certificate and Trade Test are pre-requisites
    • An N-Diploma comprises 12 credits on the N4 to N6 levels. The trade and its allied subjects must be offered at all 3 levels.
    • N6 + Trade Test.
    • The Diploma is evaluated as a three year tertiary qualification.

CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCY AS AN ENGINEER

  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
    • A candidate must be at lea5t 23 years of age
    • Prerequisite academic successes need for admission to the examination are set out in Table A and B.
    • The promotion requirement for each subject is 50%.
  • QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS
    • Certificate of competency as Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineer for Mine and Works
      • Plant Engineer (Mining and Factories)
      • Legal Knowledge (Mine and Works)
    • Certificate of competency as Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineer for factories
      • Plant Engineer (Mining and Factories)
      • Machining and Occupational Safety Act
    • Plant Engineering includes Mechanical and Electromechanical questions. The pass mark is 50%
